Buttaflies, Lotuses and Self-Love…
Through the movement of words Buttaflies, Lotuses and Self-Love…is an
interactive workshop including performance, movement, voice, poetry and breath
to encourage self-love and creative expression. This is a mind, body and soul
experience that goes from transcending to transgressing race, class and the
sexual politics of teenage girls and womyn. This workshop fosters a safe and
positive space for teenage girls to express themselves in a healthy manner
Participants will leave this workshop with self-love and creative expression tools
to be synergetic ‘whole beings’ that live race, class and gender in a healthy and
positive way on a daily basis.
BRAS: Blackness, Resistance, the Arts, and Sistas
BRAS: Blackness, Resistance, the Arts, and Sistas, is an interactive workshop
that delves into the documentation and archiving of memory in the creative arts
for girls and womyn. This workshop offers a multi-prong, grassroots and cyclical
approach of documenting the lived experiences of girls and womyn. This multi-
prong approach negates being ‘boxed in’ by embracing a cyclical/cipher mindset
of there being no monolithic experience or hierarchy in our lived and shared
experience of girlhood or womonhood. The act of documenting and archiving
these experiences is a means of building self-esteem and self-worth. This
workshop includes the writing/editing process, submitting works and getting
them published in journals/magazines, and self-publishing.
